Standard Deviation
A measure of how spread out values are around the average. In PERT, the standard deviation of an activity is (P − O) ÷ 6.
Example
With O = 4 and P = 16 days, σ = (16 − 4) ÷ 6 = 2 days, so about 68% of outcomes fall within ±2 days of the mean.
